Rigid insulation

Rigid boards insulate well for their thickness, which helps where there is little room: shallow walls, floors and some roofs.

What it is

Rigid insulation is PIR (polyisocyanurate) boards, such as Kingspan, cut to size and fixed to the frame, floor or roof.

Boards are often used with batts, or where batts would not reach the rating the design needs.

When it goes in

New build

Where the design calls for boards, they go in at frame or roofing stage, as specified.

Building a new home

Existing home

In renovations and extensions, boards can bring an older wall or floor up to standard where there is no depth for batts.

Insulating your current home

How we install it

  1. Confirm board type and thickness from the plans.

  2. Cut boards accurately so the joints are tight.

  3. Fix and tape joints as the manufacturer specifies.
